Job Description:

The De Beers Group of Companies has an exciting permanent opportunity for a highly motivated and energetic individual to join the Mining department at the Gahcho Kué Mine Site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor and working a two (2) week in / two (2) week out rotation, the responsibility of the Blaster is to safely and effectively load, stem, tie-in and shoot large diameter blast-hole patterns. The ideal candidate is one who is committed to safe work practices and strives for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:

Monitoring and directing all activities on blast patterns in a safe and effective manner; Conducting field tests to determine type and quantity of explosives required; Addressing open pit drill and blast objectives, assumptions, needs, and results; Working with various teams in the open pit; Mentoring Blaster helpers: Coordinating activities across a variety of groups (Geology, Mine Operations etc); Following all explosives regulations and site procedures; and Providing leadership for all team members, especially on the safety front.

Reporting to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, the role is based in the Mine Operations department. This is a site-based position with a 14 days in/14 days out rotation and is a permanent position.

Qualifications:

Formal qualifications:

Certified Blaster with NWT Blasting Certificate; Five to eight years of experience in mining industry, preferably with operations in an open pit; Strong communication skills both verbal and written; Ability to work well at a fast pace; Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental standards; and Experience working at a remote mining site and in a cross-cultural work environment.
