The Role (
_This position is a contract position ending Dec 2024 with the possibility of an extension.)_

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the finance department to support various accounting functions and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records.

This position offers opportunities for professional growth and development in a supportive and dynamic work environment.

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Support monthend and yearend closing processes, including preparing schedules and reports as needed.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian accounting standards.
  • Assist in the operation of the IFRS 9 Expected Credit Losses model.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports under the guidance of senior accounting staff.
  • Participate in internal audits and assist in implementing audit recommendations.
  • Help ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data and provide support as needed.
  • Perform adhoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by management.
  • Contribute to process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the finance department.
  • Assist in and perform a variety of financial analyses including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
  • Execute other projects and duties that may be assigned.
  • Provide valueadded assistance to support the Director, Accounting and Treasury to achieve its mandate and performance goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with specific credit union software is a plus).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and analysis.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Prior internship or work experience in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and regulations is an asset.
