SNC-Lavalin PGIS division has an exciting full-time career opportunity for an Electrical EIT in the field of Transmission and Distribution.


The Electrical EIT is required to work within a multi-discipline team to develop design packages for high voltage substations and distribution network.

The Station Electrical Technical Professional will coordinate his/her design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. They will also assist the estimating team in preparation of conceptual designs, estimates and project proposals.


This position is accountable to provide all design activities in accordance with applicable Codes and Standards, including all of SNC-Lavalin's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.


How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Design high voltage substation site and bus work layouts, ground grid drawings, plot plans and elevation drawings for outdoor high voltage substation equipment.
  • Design Switchgear room and Control room layout drawings for high voltage substation projects.
  • Design underground cable routing, conduit and trench plan layout and sections for high voltage substation and distribution network.
  • Prepare estimates using data from the utility material database.
  • Prepare Power Single Line Diagram, Relay and Metering Oneline diagram.
  • Prepare AC threeline diagram, Elementary Schematics and Wiring diagrams.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials and Cable Schedules.
  • Asist senior engineer for preparation of the design basis memorandum and developing detailed engineering scope of work.
  • Assist Senior Engineer for delivery of accurate and thorough electrical designs that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practices.
  • Assist Senior Engineer for maintaining complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, asbuilt requirements and return data information.
  • Maintaining good working relationship with internal groups that support project such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Project Management etc.
  • Assist Senior Engineer for completing electrical engineering studies.
  • Review and ensure that vendor design meet industry standards, client's specifications and meet the project scope and requirements.

What will you contribute?

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Eligible for registration with APEGA (Alberta) and EGBC (British Columbia).
  • A minimum of 35 years' experience as a Designer in the field of high voltage transmission and Distribution substation is considered to have gained the required experience for the position.
  • Good knowledge of North American codes and standards such as CSA, IEEE and ANSI.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, ProjectWise and Electronic Document Management Systems is beneficial.
  • High Voltage substation design experience in BC (British Columbia) and in AB (Alberta) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of grounding and lightning shielding system, rigid and strain bus calculations is beneficial.
  • Experience in sizing of major equipment and selection of high voltage substation material is beneficial.
  • A high level written and verbal communication skills.
