Reporting to the Executive Director of the Edmonton Region, the Director is a key member of the Regional Senior Leadership Team, responsible for overseeing critical areas within the Intervention Services portfolio.

This position provides strategic leadership on a broad range of programs and services at the regional, divisional and cross-government levels.


The Director is responsible for supervising multiple Managers of several Neighborhood Centers in the Edmonton Region and ensuring alignment with legislation and policy.

Neighborhood Centers are front-line delivery sites that plan and deliver a range of services to children, youth and families from intake through assessment, case management, legal permanency, transition services and post-intervention supports.

Neighborhood Centers are involved with reporting, assessing, and investigating concerns surrounding a child or youth's safety and well-being and providing ongoing case management for children, youth, and families in need of child intervention services.


The Director ensures that services to children and families are delivered with cultural sensitivity and within an understanding of cultural diversity.

Furthermore, this role must bring an indigenous lens to the work of Child Intervention and must possess an awareness and skillset grounded in indigenous culture and knowledge.

Additionally, the Director must demonstrate a strong knowledge of current best practice in child intervention and related programs and provide leadership implementing the child Intervention Practice Framework in practice and with staff.


Lastly, the Director is responsible for maintaining regional partnerships with public and private sector organizations and for developing and maintaining effective, open, and collaborative relationships with clients and stakeholders in Alberta.

Qualifications:

A related university degree plus several years of progressively related management experience. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Four (4) years of progressive responsible supervisory, management and leadership experience preferably in a child intervention environment. Other experiences and/or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.

Equivalency:
Master of Social Work and 2 years related experience; OR related diploma and 5 years related experience

Additionally, the position requires extensive knowledge and competence in:

  • Ability and experience in analyzing issues critical to effective intervention service delivery.
  • Good working knowledge of government structures, initiative and protocols.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of Ministry/Regional programs and legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in drafting correspondence/reports and making presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to think analytically, evaluate and assess information.
  • This position is expected to have extensive knowledge regarding the following areas: Child, Youth and family Enhancement Act, Family Law Act, Protection of Children Abusing Drugs Act, Drug Endangered Child Act, Protection of Sexually Exploited Children Act and the Protection Against Family Violence Act.
  • The position also requires working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, School Act, Indian Act, Health Professional Act, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Good working knowledge of the Urban Aboriginal communities in Edmonton as well as the First Nations and Métis communities within Alberta
