Reporting to the President of Construction, this position is responsible for the development and management of strategic plans, operational budgets, policies and procedures based on the collection of project / operational and management information.

This position is responsible for the development of financial plans and operational policies based on the management of all functions that are related to planning, scheduling, cost control and estimating. The Operations / Project Controller may also plan work, provide analysis of data, and provide overall control of cost, scheduling, and other tasks that are necessary for efficient project implementation.**
Responsibilities:
  • Set overall goals and establish priorities with the team lead/supervisors for the department.
  • Responsible for general quality, role definition of all project controls personnel and ethical standards.
  • Ensure industry standards are met, and reference information, tools, and other necessary materials are used in the project controls department.
  • Support and assist in corporate business development efforts.
  • Project control measures to identify and monitor standards and performance and to communicate results, advice, and options.
  • Financial reporting of information and results based on needs and accepted accounting principles.
  • Work with the executive/management team to lead the budget process.
  • Interpret financial reports and reporting of accounting information to the executive/management team.
  • Leadership of project controls group and budgets.
  • Recommend budgetary and operational objectives and performance monitoring activities.
  • Assist with project year end and audit requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of year end schedules, reconciliations, and organizing supporting documentation.
  • Maintain and build upon existing reporting as well as design and create new reports.
  • Develop, produce, and monitor benchmarks; produce variance analysis against those benchmarks.
  • Develop, produce, and monitor KPIs and any ad hoc reports.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in any of the fields: Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics.
  • Five years of relevant Construction and/or Mining experience with a minimum of three years as a quantity surveyor is an asset.
  • Fully literate and demonstrated working experience with cost budgeting, job costing, tracking, and monitoring changer orders, reviewing/due diligence/monitoring contracts and commitment.
  • Knowledge of different types of construction/mining contracts is a strong asset.
  • Computer literate, with advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Work experience with previous financial software systems. Eclipse and 4CastPlus experience are an asset.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Project software an asset.
  • Understanding of project management practices.
  • Knowledge of General Accepted Payroll Principles (GAPP).
  • Ability to develop and contribute to a positive corporate culture, and a fair and respectful workplace.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and decisionmaking skills.
  • Meets deadlines and able to effectively manage stress.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain confidentiality.
  • Accurately maintain files, records, and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.

  • Valid class 5 driver's license and willing to provide a current driver abstract.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime during peak or critical work periods.
