Position Summary

Duties

  • Perform laboratory experiments for analysis of biomarkers of neurodegeneration and inflammation using various assays (e.g., antibodybased assays such as ELISA and electrochemiluminescence, singlemolecule arrays, determination of total protein/protein concentration, enzyme activity assays, cellbased assays, quantitative PCR).
  • Performs technical tasks in the conduct of in vivo research studies.
  • Assists in processing of biofluid samples for analysis.
  • Prepares, collects and records research data and specimens in compliance with applicable regulations and SOPs: includes check and standardize reagents, review protocols, method development and validation of assays, conduct equipment maintenance, enter and verify data, write and revise standard operating procedures, respond to quality assurance audits.
  • Maintains familiarity with scientific literature and applies knowledge to research projects.
  • Contributes to general laboratory maintenance including orders supplies and materials needed for research.
  • Analyze data, maintains a detailed research record and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work.
  • Attends laboratory meetings, present data, and participates in discussions.
  • Coauthors research publications and presents research at conferences.
  • Maintains the physical environment of the lab and a safe research environment.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of other laboratory personnel such as graduate students and technicians.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, must possess a PhD in neuroscience or other scientific disciplines in a related field within the previous 5 years, or an MD or DDS within the previous 10 years.
  • A track record of publication in English language journals.
  • Able to troubleshoot effectively and solve scientific problems with moderate supervision.
  • Able to find, read, and understand relevant scientific literature.
  • Able to work under the pressure of deadlines and find solutions to meet timelines.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal, skills to communicate objectives and results.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Experience with proteomics an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of histology, molecular biology, immunology and biochemical techniques is an asset
