You are an ambassador for the exceptional service and cuisine that are hallmarks of our food & beverage experience As a Porter/Set-Up, you are responsible to ensure that rooms in the Conference Centre are set and ready for guest use, and each shift is different.


When Dishwashing, you are responsible to ensure the flow of clean-up from large functions is efficient and done with care (don't break the dishes, please).

As a part of our award-winning team at the Best Western Plus in Walkerton, your responsibility will be to:

  • Successfully set-up and tear-down banquet rooms for meetings and functions as specified by event supervisors in a friendly, helpful and timely manner
  • Understand the hotel's events, services and facilities
  • Be polite and professional to guests
  • Maintain an orderly working environment, informing your manager of any deficiencies
  • Carry out tasks and duties as directed, that pertain to the operation of the Conference Centre
  • Refresh Conference Centre rooms as directed
  • Safely transport all equipment and store in the appropriate storage rooms (some heavy lifting required)
  • Ability to read and understand instructions and diagrams for each event
  • Clean banquet rooms, vacuum, mop and dust as instructed
  • Ensure all waste products are emptied and discarded of in the correct manner
  • Be able to work weekends, holidays and shift work as scheduled. Holiday pay is applicable
  • Efficiently utilize an industrial dishwasher (training provided)
  • Polish and put away clean dishes in the appropriate locations
Some skills that will be key to being successful in this role are:

  • Must be able to follow instructions and understand set up diagrams (fluency in English (written and verbal) is a
    must)
  • Must be able to lift and transport heavy equipment (ability to lift 50 pounds is a
    must)
  • Teamwork approach to all duties and helpful attitude with coworkers
  • Efficient and effective approach to completing all tasks
  • Previous experience in banquets at a hotel is preferred
  • Excellent problem solving skills is preferred
  • Must provide a positive and professional demeanor
