Reporting to the Coordinator - Infection Safety, the Infection Control Practitioner develops, implements, monitors and evaluates infection control practices within our organization, based on best practice standards proven to reduce the acquisition/transmission of pathogens amongst patients and staff.

Key practices include surveillance, measures to contain organisms of epidemiological importance and outbreak management.

By providing consultation, guidance and coaching regarding infection safety practices to patient care teams, the Infection Control Practitioner is influential in advancing key patient and staff infection safety initiatives.

This role functions as a consultant, role model, investigator and educator responsible for recommending and implementing strategies that impact our patients and their families, all health care workers (i.e. staff, physicians and volunteers) and the public.

Essential Qualifications

  • BScN (Registered Nurse) or BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • 2 years experience in Infection Safety or related area
  • Current registration in good standing with relevant College or Association.
  • Current certification with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) or obtain within 2 years of hire
  • Current experience performing activities that are client centered, while incorporating infection prevention principles
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in analysis, measurement and evaluative methods, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience with best practice guidelines for infectious disease prevention and control
  • Demonstrated experience with the promotion and implementation of clinical best practices
  • Demonstrated experience with health promotion and health education/teaching activities
  • Knowledge of the legislation, guidelines and regulations as they relate to the position and responsibilities of the Long-Term Care Act.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical quality improvement and change management.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with a diverse range of stakeholders as well as work effectively within interprofessional teams.
  • Effective critical thinking, analytical decisionmaking, and problemresolution skills and the ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messages.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and demands in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills with word, excel and electronic document software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in French would be an asset

Teaching and Research

  • St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St. Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties

Immunization Requirements

  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
