Northern Allowances (rates and conditions subject to change):

Duties

Parks Canada is currently seeking a highly dynamic and experienced individual to fill the position of "Area Superintendent" and lead the management, development, and delivery of our comprehensive programs, operations, and services within the Nunavut Central Area. The Area Superintendent provides oversees operations in both Sirmilik National Park and Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area. The selected candidate will be tasked with addressing a range of strategic program and operational challenges that present a high degree of complexity and broad scope.

In this capacity, the Area Superintendent will be expected to demonstrate exceptional leadership and strategic thinking skills, guiding a dedicated team of five to seven direct reports. You will be responsible for steering the team towards achieving excellence in service delivery, ensuring that both the national park and marine conservation area operate efficiently and effectively, in alignment with Parks Canada's overarching goals and mandates.

The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, the ability to anticipate and mitigate risks, and the capacity to engage with diverse stakeholders, including local communities, Inuit, government and non-governmental organizations.

Work environment

Parks Canada Agency is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada's natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

In Nunavut, Inuit and Parks Canada cooperatively manage five national parks, one national historic site and one national marine conservation area. They are: Auyuittuq National Park, Sirmilik National Park, Qausuittuq National Park, Quttinirpaaq National Park, Ukkusiksalik National Park, the Wrecks of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror National Historic Site and Tallurutiup Imanga National Marine Conservation Area. Long before these areas received federal protection, Inuit lived, harvested and travelled these lands and waters. Many staff have connections to these places through their families and ancestors. To this day, harvesting and use by Inuit remains a protected right under the Nunavut Agreement. As a Parks Canada team member in Nunavut, you will help protect, present and share these incredible places so they remain for generations, by implementing the Nunavut Agreement and Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreements.

EDUCATION

• Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a degree or diploma in a field relevant to the duties of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in managing and collaborating with multidisciplinary internal and external groups;

• Experience working in a management or supervisory role (supervising staff, establishing work
objectives, managing performance issues, etc).

• Experience providing strategic advice, analysis and recommendations to senior management;

• Experience preparing a variety of professional communications products such as memos to staff, briefing notes, presentations, or written reports.

• Experience collaborating with Indigenous people, groups, or organizations to manage projects and/or achieve common objectives.
