About Us

The Department of Public Works aims to deliver quality public building infrastructure for Nova Scotia. Their goal is to ensure that the institutional infrastructure is constructed in a manner that enhances the lives of Nova Scotians while supporting the Provincial Government's initiatives on climate change. The Building Infrastructure Design and Construction (BIDC) Division is responsible for designing and constructing new and renovated building infrastructure, including Schools, Courthouses, Healthcare Facilities, Museums, Art Galleries, Provincial Buildings, Highway operations buildings, and more.

Project Managers play a crucial role in overseeing construction projects for Provincial Government building Infrastructure projects.

The Building Infrastructure Design and Construction Division comprises a team of professionals dedicated to providing Nova Scotia with a superior built environment. About Our Opportunity

As the Project Manager, you are responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects involving the design, construction, and/or renovation of large multi-million-dollar public buildings. You are essential to the Building Infrastructure Design and Construction Division, ensuring projects adhere to Public Works policies regarding scope, quality, schedule, and budget.

Primary Accountabilities

Your role involves providing expertise throughout the project life cycle, from design and tendering to construction and the warranty phase. Your responsibilities include:

Managing contracts with contractors and consultants;Monitoring and updating project costs, schedule, and scope;Leading a project team to identify and resolve issues, and eliminate obstacles;Analyzing and managing project risks;Liaising between Public Works and client groups;Ensuring work is carried out safely and in compliance with regulations;Preparing the building for occupancy to ensure a seamless transition for end-users.

You will act as the primary contact keeping senior and financial managers at Public Works informed of project status.

As a key member of the Building Infrastructure Design and Construction Division, you must demonstrate strong leadership skills to motivate your team throughout the project.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have one of the following qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Engineering with at least six (6) years of experience in managing large construction projects; orAn Architecture degree with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience managing complex building projects.

Candidates eligible for immediate registration with the relevant authorities upon hiring will also be considered.

A solid technical background, understanding of the construction industry and engineering principles, strong business acumen, and proficiency in risk management are essential. Travel within the province is required for this position.

Successful candidates exhibit excellent judgement in applying engineering principles to building construction, inspiring confidence and creativity within the project team. Professionalism in interactions with management and stakeholders is paramount.

Assessment of qualifications and competencies will be conducted through various methods, including written exams, standardized tests, interviews, and reference checks.

Working Conditions

This position involves a mix of office and fieldwork, with fieldwork exposing individuals to adverse weather conditions and typical hazards of construction sites. Climbing, working at heights, and in confined spaces may be required. The role may entail working under emergency conditions and occasional overtime.
