The ASK Wellness Society is an Accredited, not-for-profit organization.

Through the generous support of funders, we assist those who are marginalized and at-risk to strengthen the communities we serve (Kamloops, Merritt, and Penticton).

We provide housing and support to those who are facing or at risk of homelessness and support those who may use substances, or who require mental health supports, harm reduction, or health education.

Ultimately, we aim to provide the skills to re-enter the workforce_._

Position Summary:
The Recovery Support Worker has distinct roles due to the two different perspective programs we provide.

The Supportive Recovery program provides recovery supports and housing to those individuals who have successfully gone through detox and wish further assistance to live a life of sobriety.

As a Supportive Recovery worker, you will work in collaboration with the Alcohol and Drug Counsellor and the Supportive Recovery Team to build rapport and support Program Participants to develop the skills to move on to independent living based on their personal recovery plan.

Service delivery is based on a client centered, trauma informed, and non-judgmental perspective.

Typical Duties Include:

  • Supportive Recovery Responsibilities _
  • Collaborate with the Supportive Recovery and Career Development Program Team to develop, implement, maintain, and adjust treatment/recovery plans and assist Program Participants in developing and achieving the goals outlined within their individualized treatment/recovery plan.
  • Provide care within the interdisciplinary model through trauma informed practice, twoeyed seeing practice, harm reduction and a recoveryoriented care approach.
  • Assist Program Participants seeking recovery from substance use disorders to assist in the creation of their own recovery plans and develop their own recovery pathways.
  • Assist with the meal preparation program including but not limited to daily kitchen activities, aiding with menu preparation, ensuring food quality and freshness, monitoring/ordering and stocking.
  • Encourage and support Program Participants to live as fully and independently as possible within the local community, providing information, emotional, organizational, and practical support, and training as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the protection of Program Participants from abuse, and support Participants when they are in distress.
  • Encourage and motivate Program Participants to develop a sense of their own identity, purpose, and selfesteem.
  • Work closely with referral agencies (i.e. CMHA, IHA, Friendship Centre, Brain Injury, etc.).
  • Actively seek the views of Program Participants and involve them in decisionmaking to improve their services and accommodations.
  • Monitor emergencies that take place such as medical or mental health assistance and complete necessary incident reports.
  • When necessary, be trained to be the first to respond to an overdose situation with onthespot overdose response and support.
  • Be prepared to work calmly and together with your team, paramedics, and police in crisis situations.
  • Ensure Limitation of Service Notices are completed and current.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized workspace by doing light housekeeping in the office space.
  • Monitor and move along community members who are loitering in and around the property.
  • Assist and encourage clients to create connections within the community by volunteering and finding employment.
