Anodyne is a Vancouver based company focused on the sustainable production of our most important chemicals.

We are scientists, engineers & innovators with a passion for sustainability and a shared vision to improve how we make chemicals and fuels.

Our team partners with leaders in synthetic biology, electrolysis, and plant design to implement our technology at scale.

We are currently looking for an electrolyzer specialist to join our team. This will be a technical role. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, characterizing, and optimizing electrolyzer cells.

Being part of our team means tackling one of the largest challenges of our generation.

You will apply your talents in ways that make a difference by directly contributing towards technologies that enable a better, cleaner future.

Job Brief

In this role, you will lead the design, characterization, and optimization of continuous flow electrolyzers that utilize biological catalysts to produce sustainable chemicals.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team to validate new reactors in the lab and collaborate with external partners to scale to commercial facilities.

You will act as a subject matter expert and play a key role in making strategic decisions.

What You Will Do

Design and validate strategies to optimize reactor architectures, components, and operating conditions to maximize the performance of different bio-electric processes.

Thoroughly characterize bio-electric reactors by designing and implementing appropriate testing methods, using mathematical modelling tools, and identifying and engaging with specialized service providers.

Provide technical designs of reactor structures, source new materials, and assemble new components and reactors.
Work closely with the electrochemistry team and process engineering team to translate bench-top chemistries to industrial solutions.

Act as a liaison between Anodyne and external partners to facilitate the design and construction of pilot scale facilities.

Carry out literature surveys and data analyses. Present findings and recommendations in oral and written reports.
Develop documentation, standard operating procedures, and presentations.
Remain aware of new developments within the field, evaluate, and report on how they might further Anodyne's objectives.

Who You Are

You are an innovative scientist or engineer who enjoys designing and testing new electrolyzer reactors.

You have experience using electrolytic systems to produce chemicals and are looking to apply your skills to create sustainable solutions for the chemical sector.

You are excited to be a key member of a growing, fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.

You have a PhD or P. Eng in chemistry or a related field.
You have hands-on experience designing and characterizing electrolytic systems to produce chemicals. This could include (but isn't limited to) CO2 electroreduction or the production of hydrogen peroxide in an electrolytic cell.

You have a strong understanding of a range of electrolyzer cell architectures and are able to make recommendations for superior conditions, components, and structures.

You have familiarity with standard characterization techniques (e.g., CV, CA, CP, etc.) and can design and carry out appropriate experiments to validate new reactors' performance.

You have the complimentary coding and mathematical skills to analyze and interpret data collected using these methods.

You are capable of thinking and planning strategically, while also keeping your eye on the crucial details and ensuring strong execution.

You are creative and able to innovate, solve problems, and design strong experiments to test new questions.

You demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, have excellent organizational skills, and are able to communicate to inter-disciplinary teams effectively.

Experience with gas to liquid reactions, gas diffusion electrode design, membrane design, catalyst design, and/or scaling electrochemical systems is considered an additional asset.

Knowledge of surface chemistry, and/or analytical chemistry is also considered an additional asset.
