Reporting to the District Principal of Learning Services, the Social-Emotional Behaviour Strategist (SEBS), works under the day-to-day direction and supervision of the Coordinator.

The SEBS is a valuable member of the Learning Services team and provides a trauma-informed approach in support of K-12 students who are exhibiting substantial emotional, and interpersonal difficulties with extreme behavioural challenges and complex needs.

The position requires an understanding of indigenous families and the profound effects of trauma, colonization, assimilation, residential schools, child welfare intervention, racism, violence, and social inequality.

This itinerant position works with students' care teams (teachers, education assistants, child & youth care workers, outside agencies, and school administrators) to create student-specific intervention plans and supports school personnel and families in their understanding of trauma and offers strategies for different environments.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Completion of a minimum of two years of post-secondary education including coursework in trauma-informed practice, mental health first-aid, child and youth care, social work, and/or specifically relevant training.

Ability to calmly support students during crisis situations in a culturally appropriate way; modelling &

implementing student-centered de-escalation strategies that do not re-traumatize while also promoting coping skills and resilience, following safety plans and/or positive behaviour support plans.


Ability to work independently and cooperatively while following the direction and guidance of the Indigenous Success Coordinator (Social/Emotional Focus) or other members of the District Learning Services team.

Demonstrated ability to exercise exceptional tact, discretion, and judgement.

Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with school and community-based members of a student's team.

Current CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is required along with ongoing willingness and ability to maintain currency.


Ability to adapt to regularly changing work environments and locations, including access to a vehicle and holding a valid BC driver's license.

Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.

The successful applicant will be assigned to various schools throughout the District by Inclusive Learning (i.e. Ladner, North Delta, Tsawwassen).
