Part-time Guide/educator for Nature-based

The Almonte Learning Garden is seeking a guide/teacher who is passionate about nature education to join our nature based and Montessori focused early childhood school.
As a guide, you will be responsible for creating and implementing engaging outdoor learning experiences for children currently aged 3-4 years old.
This is a half-day position where ideally the entirety of the time is spent outdoors, exploring, playing, and learning amidst nature's wonders.
You will incorporate natural elements to create experiences intended to inspire a love for the environment and encourage holistic development.
Description/Responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate outdoor play experiences within the school grounds using the natural landscape in a variety of ways to foster learning and spark curiosity with the students
- Lead outdoor exploration sessions, guiding children in discovering and appreciating the natural world
- Incorporate naturebased learning into all aspects of the chosen activities, including playtime, crafts, and lessons
- Foster a safe and nurturing outdoor environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and respect for nature
- Communicate collaboratively with school lead (Adriane) to plan ideas and prepare activities and projects that use natural materials that are locally foraged or sourced
- Work independently and have the ability to be flexible, when required
- Provide individualized attention and support to meet the diverse needs and interests of each child
- Observe the children and communicate regularly with parents and other staff members, sharing insights into their child's progress, achievements, and experiences
Required Qualifications:
- Preferred: Montessori experience or teacher certification, Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent, and/or Forest School Practitioner but we also highly value lived experience and passion
- Experience working with young children and experience working in an outdoor setting
- Physically capable of performing teaching duties with enthusiasm regardless of the weather (rain, sleet, snow, heat)
- Interest in and respect for Montessori and/or Forest School style of education
- Understand the benefits of childled curriculum
- Current First Aid with level C CPR (completed prior to start date)
- Standard medical file for work in the early childhood sector (completed prior to start date)
- Clear criminal record check, including vulnerable sector (completed prior to start date)
- Confident in communicating and collaborating with coguides; prepared to communicate and build relationships with parents and caregivers
- Energetic and prepared to play active games with the children, lift/carry children or move outdoor furniture or materials when needed
Assets:
- Familiarity with the local flora and fauna; expertise in any field which you can share with the children such as art, math, sewing, construction, music; fluent in French; interest in building a school community
