Job Summary

Dalhousie University's Office of Advancement is responsible for all fundraising and alumni engagement activities at the institution. A team of over 100 advancement professionals cultivates relationships with alumni and friends of the university and works with donors to help them achieve personal fulfilment through philanthropic investment. Reporting to the Director, Prospect Development, the Advancement Research Analyst is responsible for proactively identifying, investigating and profiling high level prospects capable of making major gifts, with specialized attention on principal gift prospects with capacity to give $1 million or more. They will produce highly customized and professionally written research reports that are curated from in‐depth research, financial analysis and highly sensitive due diligence research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively develop and implement innovative strategies and plans for prospect identification and qualification. Project scope ranges from faculty specific fundraising initiatives to comprehensive university campaigns.
  • Conduct advanced research, analyze, interpret, and synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative data into customized reports that assess financial capacity, philanthropic interests, giving propensity and potential reputational considerations.
  • Create reports, profiles and relationship mapping documents for the President, Vice‐President, Advancement, and other fundraisers that clearly communicate key findings and recommend a strategic course of action for the cultivation and solicitation of new and existing donors.
  • Identify existing and potential Dalhousie connections with individuals and organizations and advise of the relevance of these connections, the reach of these circles of influence and opportunities presented.
  • Manage the ethical collection, dissemination and management of prospect and donor information to ensure compliance with Dalhousie's ethical and confidentiality guidelines, and privacy regulations.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with three to five years' prospect research experience in a higher education or non-profit fundraising environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Familiarity with and understanding of fundraising techniques and strategies for each phase of the moves management cycle.
  • Excellent conceptual skills and a demonstrated ability to think strategically and synthesize large amounts of complex data efficiently and effectively and communicate that information appropriately.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Superior written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are essential as is the ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities under tight timelines.
