About Watari Counselling & Support Services:
Watari was developed in 1986 as a response to the lack of services and programs for high-risk street-involved youth in Vancouver.
Since then, Watari has helped thousands of people in the Downtown Eastside and the surrounding communities, through several youth and community programs as well as through our counselling team.
Over the years, Watari has developed important programs not only for youth but for everyone needing support here in the community, including Indigenous people and migrant workers.
Our Latin American Group and Vietnamese Community Kitchen have become important staples in the community as well.Although much has changed over the years, Watari continues to be a safe and supportive place for the people in the community.

Job description:
The position reports directly to the Youth Teams Liaison Supervisor.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Provide community outreach services and advocacy support to youth in the DTES
- Provide honest, respectful client centred care and develop trusting alliances with participants
- Provide oneonone support to identify and access appropriate community resources that are barriers for youth
- Order and pack up harm reduction supplies and keep outreach supplies up to date
- Provide crisis intervention
- Attend community meetings and events relevant to youth in this community
- Work collaboratively with different professionals and as a member of a team
- Participate in, and have a practical understanding of integrated case planning
- Prepare reports and document daily activity, as required
- Maintain accurate petty cash receipts, timesheets, records and reports
- Participate in weekly Food Bank orders
- Maintain a vehicle for work purposes
- Pick up weekly donations
- Attend Wednesday Native Health Youth dropin
- Facilitate Youth Unlimited Community Kitchen
- Support, facilitate and partner with other organizations to welcome youth into the Cultural Connections programming
Accountability:
- Provide receipts, timesheets and all other agency forms in a timely manner
- Attend Reconnect and DTES planning table meetings as appropriate
- Attend supervision meetings as required
- Attend staff meetings as required
- Participate in agency inservice training as applicable
Requirements:
- Completion of a CYCC diploma is a minimum
- Related extensive experience working with atrisk youth
- Ability to engage and motivate hardtoreach youth
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills
- Knowledge of youth issues
- Excellent problemsolving skills
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, and with mínimal supervision
- Ability to work as an effective and cooperative team member
- A valid BC driver's license (class 5) is an asset
