SYLVIS has an opening for a Seasonal Technical Assistant to join our team in
Edmonton, Alberta for the 2023 field season (May through October).

What will our Technical Assistant do?


You will work with our team of professionals out of our Edmonton office supporting multiple operational projects for the 2023 field season (May through October).

You will assist in implementing project requirements in the field and some office-based administrative tasks. Periodic overnight travel may be required.

You are a self-starter, enthusiastic, and a contributor in dynamic environments, working equally well to accomplish specific tasks either alone or in a team.

You are known for your organization, work ethic and can-do attitude.

In this position you will:

  • Conduct environmental sampling activities and record field data
  • Supervise and track residuals hauling and spreading activities
  • Coordinate vehicle and small equipment maintenance
  • Perform general labour activities
  • Adhere to the safety system requirements at all times
  • Perform data entry
  • Assist with other various field and office tasks

You:

  • Are working towards or have a technical diploma or degree in environmental studies, agriculture, horticulture, biology, or forestry
  • Are organized, selfsufficient, and able to effectively communicate with your team and supervisor
  • Are experienced working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Are physically fit and able to complete repetitive tasks such as soil sampling
  • Have experience working at active field sites and following stringent safety requirements
  • Hold a valid Alberta Driver's License
  • Are experienced driving in offroad conditions and pulling a trailer
  • Are flexible to work long days and weekends when required
  • Experience working with organic residuals such as manure, biosolids, or compost is an asset
  • Experience operating heavy equipment is an asset

The following is considered a requirement for employment:

  • You are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (fully vaccinated means having received two doses) and able to provide proof with the AB vaccine card.
