Working closely with the Family Place Director/Navigator to provide a healthy, positive atmosphere where parents/caregivers feel welcome to drop in with their young families, allowing them to access resources and fain parenting skills, practical homemaking skills and necessary life skills to ensure a healthy home for their children.

Ages ranging mostly 0-6 years.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to the policies and standards of the Boston Bar Family Place, as established in policy and program manuals, Health & Safety Guidelines, job descriptions, written memos, verbal agreements and contracts.
  • Maintains a warm, supportive, healthy, and engaging early learning environment for both children and caregivers.
  • Helps plan and structure developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for the children.
  • Fosters the inclusion of all children and caregivers and opportunities to build and strengthen familial relationships within the learning environment.
  • Educates and models appropriate behavior and techniques for caregivers that are easily transferable to the home environment.
  • Provides education and support to families to help support their child's health, social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
  • Connects families with other community agencies, community programs, services providers and resources.
  • Provides a daily nutritional snack that is both healthy and affordable.
  • Maintains along with Family Place Director/Navigator, all necessary documentation, statistics and records as required.
  • Ensures a healthy, safe environment. Identifies and removes potential health hazards.
  • May represent the agency at community events as required (Training/Meetings).
  • Performs other related duties as required.

A Normal Day:
Some tasks are along with the Director/Family Navigator

  • May help plan and organize weekly activities such as crafts, story time, creative cooking classes and play.
  • Communication to parents/caregivers about weekly activities and making sure adequate supplies are on hand for all activities.
  • Set up and clean up for all activities and community lunch.
  • Keeping open communication with parents and provide a role model for appropriate behavior, discipline as well as helping to ensure each child's safety from other children and surrounding and maintaining our posted building guidelines.
  • Helping the Director/Navigator keep track of stats.
  • Preparing a heathy snack/lunch for dropin programs and community lunches.
  • Communicating ideas for the monthly calendars.
  • General cleaning duties include daily cleanup from snacks and lunches, sweeping, shoveling(snow) outer walkway and steps when needed, checking playground equipment for safety, checking door locks etc.
  • Reminding participants of our general guidelines and rules.
  • Keeping the Director/Navigator aware of any safety concerns, health concerns or general dishevelment of the building or surroundings.

Job Skills and Abilities:
Excellent working knowledge of child development, early learning, community, and childcare issues.

Plans along with Family Place Director and carries out and developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children through play, craft, and fun Identifies the abilities, interests and need of children and their parents/caregivers.

Administers first aid and assistance in accordance with established policy. Communicates with families about children's growth and development. Communicates all issues with Family Place Director/Navigator.

Provides parenting skill building to clients on issues such as parent-child interaction, child development, discipline, and guidance.


Experience planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate and effective early learning, play-based environment for children 0-6 years of age that follows in our programs and workplans.


Coordinates with staff to discuss, plan program activities in light of program goals and objectives, and in conjunction with organizational policies and procedures.

- May maintain and purchase activity materials and snacks within the allocated funds keeping accurate record and submitting receipts. Strong written and interpersonal skills.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
