We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and Downtown East area of Toronto.

We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including:

primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, health promotion, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, harm reduction and homeless programs, Pathways to Education, infant and child development programs, parenting programs, youth outreach and employment services.


Job Summary:


YEA Summer Leadership Program is an 8-week leadership program for predominantly racialized low-income youth years of age living in the Regent Park and Moss Park communities.

Through Summer YEA's component activities (workshops, volunteer placements, youth developed/implemented presentations, etc.)

Summer YEA will:

increase social/life skills; increase knowledge of, and access, to resources and supports; increase community participation; increase opportunities for leadership and decision making, planning and implementation of project activities; increase a sense of connectedness.


This is a Full-Time Contract position for the length of eight weeks.
This is a bargaining unit position within OPSEU Local 5115.

Salary:

    Responsibilities Include:
Staff and Team

  • Coordinating and scheduling recreational and other types of activities
  • Discussing rules, and regulations for the youth in the summer program
  • Develop communication and promotional materials and promote the Youth Summer Program
  • Facilitate information sessions with key stakeholders, youth groups, and relevant partners
  • Codesign and facilitate workshops for youth on relevant topics, such as technology, community engagement, community safety, wellbeing, and mental health
  • Organizing and leading activities for YEA Summer Program
Program Planning and Implementation

  • Assist in the development, design, planning, and implementation of all aspects of the leadership program's inperson and virtual activities
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a positive (i.e., safe, supportive, antidiscriminatory, emotionally/intellectually stimulating, and creative environment for youth, program staff, and volunteers
Administration

  • Assist in maintaining and submitting required files and records (i.e., attendance, registration forms, sign out, etc.) in a timely manner and ensure that all statistics are recorded and maintained
  • Report and/or document all serious occurrences such as accidents, incidents, and related conversations with participants, parents and\or other staff and ensure that the Coordinator of Youth and Employment Services is fully informed
Community Outreach & Health Promotion

  • Assist in representing the program and agency by exchanging information, and resources and maintaining good relations with other community organizations, local community residents and businesses, and relevant stakeholders regarding the program and Youth Services
  • Work within the agency's community development and health promotion framework
