The opportunity:


The Human Resources & Payroll Coordinator is part of the College of Nursing team at the University of Manitoba and works closely with the Operations Manager providing day-to-day HR and payroll support.

The College of Nursing embodies several types of appointment categories which influx up to 600+ on-boarding hires every year.

This position is the first point of contact for HR related inquiries related to hiring, completion, organization and tracking of forms, and all onboarding communication.


This position will be responsible for providing advice and support to Associate Deans, Directors, Coordinators and Supervisors in the development of job descriptions, recruitment and hiring process, probation & trial period process, and other processes.

The HR and Payroll Coordinator will also be responsible for weekly payroll data entry, inquiries, and ensuring payroll reports are accurate.

The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management required.
  • Payroll administration training or experience required.
  • One year of directlyrelated administrative experience required.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with payroll processes and hiring practices required.
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed spreadsheets and databases to manipulate data for reporting required.
  • Experience working in a unionized office setting required.
  • Experience of the full recruitment life cycle is required.
  • Knowledge of employment standards, policies and procedures related to human resources required.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the University collective agreements, governance, structure, policies, and procedures preferred.
  • Familiar with University of Manitoba HRIS systems (UMCareers, VIP, JUMP, etc.) preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced administrative level in Microsoft suit of programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Proficient with conferencing technology (MS Teams, Zoom) required.
  • Proven time management, decisionmaking and problemsolving skills are required.
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity and professionalism, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly organized and able to set priorities; maintain confidentiality; and exercise diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines is required.
  • Proven ability to manage a large volume of work with attention to detail, conflicting priorities and deadlines is required.
  • Must have a willingness and ability to adapt to changing administrative and financial systems.
  • Must have an excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of internal and external contacts.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
