We are seeking creative, dynamic, and committed
teachers to join our team at General Vanier Public School .
Our school is an English language primary school which provides a safe, supportive environment for all. Student learning is the focus of a partnership between the staff, parents, and the community. It is important that everyone who enters through our doors feels welcome. The General Vanier staff is committed to providing an effective program which meets the wide variety of educational needs of our students. We have over 80% of our school population as ELLs (Arabic is the dominant first language) and work hard to be a culturally responsive education team to ensure all of our students are engaged in the learning and see themselves and their families in the curriculum. Our staff are training in Third Path which is a relationship-based approach to student well-being and achievement. We have a PSN class as well.
Ideal candidates will support the fulfillment of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board's (OCDSB) Strategic Plan to enhance the quality of education in the school, and the District, by creating a positive and inclusive school climate, learning and workplace environment. Candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully, with a human rights and equity perspective, to foster student success, achievement and well-being.
Eligibility List
All Occasional Teachers are eligible to apply for Long Term Occasional postings for which they are qualified.
If you are fully external to the OCDSB, you may apply to this posting if you have the required qualifications. Please be advised that our order of consideration for Elementary LTO's is as follows: current elementary occasional teacher applicants, followed by qualified external applicants.
Qualifications
Required OCT Divisional Qualifications: Primary
Required OCT Additional Qualifications: Spec Ed 2
Additional Requirements (experience, knowledge, education,) considered an asset for the Position: Kindergarten and ESL qualifications an asset. Multi-language learner; experience teaching or learning the ARTS an asset.
Additional Information: Hi gh number of students with complex academic and social emotional learning needs. Many students with ASD and a high number of Multi-language learners. A kindergarten to grade 3 school (English only).
School is close to the Bank and Walkley intersection. 98% of our students take a bus to get to school.
Our first priority at General Vanier is to create a safe school in which all students feel included and can be productively engaged in learning. Describe how you have created and maintained a safe classroom in which all students feel supported and valued. Tell how discipline issues were dealt with using a relationship-based and equity lens so that learning took place and improved behaviour resulted. 2.Assessment drives instruction. Describe the assessment tools and strategies you have used to support learning.

1. At least three (3) teachers, who are currently employed as an occasional teacher with the OCDSB, and who have the required OCT qualifications and who best meet the criteria outlined in the job posting.
2. If fewer than three (3) qualified applicants apply, all qualified applicants will be interviewed.
