Mental Health Worker

(Full-time Contract)


Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status.


We are searching for a full-time Mental Health Worker to provide culturally competent mental health services to newcomers and enhance their knowledge and practice of wellness and stress management practices.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide individual shortterm problemsolving support for newcomers through identifying the presenting problem, goals and available options
  • Ability to conduct needs assessments, through trauma informed lens, for specific populations, including victims of family violence.
  • Provide case management services by coordinating with the appropriate additional supports and services needed to ensure optimum progress
  • Deliver information workshops related to mental wellness and stress management such as addressing the Mental Health Stigma in cultural communities, dealing with Change, Understanding Cultural Differences, Establishing Safety and Creating Trust etc.
  • Provide crisis support in emergency situations
  • Supervise MSW practicum students as required
  • Conduct outreach activities to newcomer communities to increase awareness of the service
  • Participate in team meetings, as well as other internal and external committees as required.
  • Make appropriate referrals to longer term community support services and/or mental health services as required
  • Develop, document and report on client outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly statistical reports, progress reports and evaluation of program results as required.
  • Propose suggestions to improve the program delivery.
  • Meet assigned program goals.
  • Other related duties as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Masters level education in Social Work, Social Sciences or related health discipline is preferred, the minimum level of education is a postsecondary degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing mental health services and/or crisis support
  • Membership in good standing in related provincial regulatory association
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards of culturally responsive service delivery within an antiracism and antioppression framework.
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative, judgement and problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability in using discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential issues
  • Demonstrated skills in development and facilitation of group training sessions and group activities

Location:
Peel, ON

Compensation:
$37.55 to $41.79 based on experience

Hours of work:35 per week, including evening and weekend hours as required
