Our Team:


The Thompson Mines Technical Services (MTS) Team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer.

We aim to design and plan safe, sustainable ore extraction through technical excellence in the areas of geology, mine planning, ventilation, backfill, ground control, drill/blast and survey control.


The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a
Mine Planner to join our
Mines Technical Services Team in
Thompson, MB. This is a
permanent position.


As a Mine planner you will be responsible for the design and execution of the 3month plan, which is used to achieve production targets and creating drill blast layouts for the operations.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with their peers in the engineering team and cross functionally with all other areas of the operations.


Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Design stopes using Deswik mine design software.
  • Production ITH drill hole layout.
  • Production blast design including issuing blast letters, clearing and guarding notifications, and holding preblast meetings.
  • Design development for accessing the ore body.
  • Ensuring that backfill of stopes is planned and issued.
  • Ensuring that ventilation systems are designed and issued for installation in your area.
  • Ensure power and drainage systems are designed for your area.
  • Economic assessment of stopes.
  • Managing projects such as mine improvement and infrastructure replacement.
  • Communicate with contractors and construction crews.
  • Recommend improvements to engineering designs.
  • Know and comply with safety policies and procedures.

About You

Education:

  • Post-Secondary diploma in Mining Technology or a related discipline or
  • Undergraduate Degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering

Experience:

  • 3 years of underground mining experience

Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of MS office Products (Excel, word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with 3D mine design software (Deswik preferred)
  • Solid understanding of project management principles.
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
