Position Description:

The Technical Consultant is a key affiliate position for delivering customer value and increasing our overall business results.


With technical leadership, the Technical Consultant is the external and internal technical advocate of our product brands as well as the company brand.

This role promotes Elanco and its products with key feed mill business, feedlot customers, consultants and key opinion leaders or experts.

In addition this role will have responsibility to lead Canada's sustainability strategy as it relates to product, technology and new innovation implementation.

This individual will need to develop and maintain the customer facing experience whether related to technology (i.e. Benchmark), nutrition or products.

The Technical Consultant provides technical input in case of questions, inquiries or complaints related to the Elanco products, disease/condition area or feed process areas.


Functions, Duties & Tasks:

  • Lead Elanco Canada in the development of its sustainability strategy
1) by assuring the implementation of a batch system so a producer's data flows into Elanco's analytical platform. This will require interaction with third party suppliers and liaisoning with Elanco USA.

2) by defining efficient ways to collect feed formulations and feed delivery data from participating feedlot producers. This at first will require creation of internal working tools.

3) by communicating directly with data stewards to resolve start up issues with data flow.


4) this role owns the relationship with the sustainability key opinion leaders (local stakeholders and government) to identify carbon inset as well as offset opportunities.


5) By delivering ongoing neutral interpretations of finisher beef performances to help a feedlot producer identify opportunities for improvement from an economic and sustainability (carbon footpring) perspective.

All these functions will be conducted in close collaboration with Elanco USA.

  • Lead assays conducted in feed (antimicrobial recovery, microtracer, mixer validation), which involve responding to the inquiries from the lab, reporting the results in a manner that generates increasing value. At the demand of the sales rep, traveling to feed mills may be required.
  • Support products requiring expert answers by addressing off label questions, providing technical advice and by providing science base information in response to specific requests;
  • Continually improve the sales rep technical proficiency by traveling with the sales rep, and by providing individual and group training;
  • Assists Marketing in the production of materials for internal and external audience and by contributing to the development and delivery of the marketing strategy;
  • Support customer experience studies by developing protocols, assisting in the data collection and reporting, in collaboration with sponsor's representatives and project teams;
  • Build & maintain strong and enduring business partnerships/relationships with technical decision makers in key accounts, academia, researchers, consultants and other key opinion leaders;
  • Attend expert conferences, large trade industry events to network and inform the team of industry trends and competitor messages
  • Support Canadas's innovation initiatives and lead new technology implementation and service.

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):

  • PhD in Nutrition
  • Five years field experience (practice or commercial experience)
  • Excellent English (both passive and active)
