LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is seeking a
Medical Laboratory Technician to join our
Genetics team in
Toronto, Ontario.

This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients' lives.


This is a Full Time role suitable for an individual with a Day Schedule. This is a great role for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Perform a variety of medical genetic procedures as outlined in laboratory procedures manual.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of testing requests, perform data entry, and followup as necessary.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specimen handling requirements and prioritization of specimens and results, following LifeLabs procedures.
  • Perform sample preparation and nucleic acid extraction from various sample types.
  • Perform instrument maintenance and QC.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Report unresolved problems to senior technologist or supervisor, as appropriate.
  • Prioritize work and respond to urgent or unpredictable demands for specimen processing or testing.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and validations aimed at improving efficiency.
  • Follow Universal Precautions in handling all specimens received in the laboratory.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in molecular biology preferred.
  • Handson work experience in a clinical genetics or molecular genetics laboratory.
  • Working knowledge of molecular genetic nomenclature and clinical conventions.
  • Experience with complex data entry, sample processing and computer skills.
