BC Schizophrenia Society Events Coordinator

Part-Time (18 Hours/week)

One-year contract (with the possibility of extension)


The British Columbia Schizophrenia Society (BCSS) has a vision where those affected by schizophrenia and other serious mental illness receive adequate treatment and support, and family members are essential partners within the mental health system.

Our mission is to support families affected by schizophrenia and other serious mental illness in British Columbia through education, advocacy, and research.

BCSS was founded in 1982 and is a charitable society with a provincial office located in
Vancouver, BC.

Events Coordinator
The Events Coordinator will lead all provincial events for BCSS and the BCSS Foundation.

This role will coordinate events and collaborate with the BCSS Communications Team for content, promotion, and the marketing of events.

Event goals include supporting the direction of BCSS; increasing awareness of schizophrenia, psychosis, severe and persistent mental illness; and increasing the reach of BCSS throughout the province.

This role will work alongside the BCSS Communications Team and the Director of Operations and Programs.

The position reports to the Director of Development

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating events for BCSS and the BCSS Foundation, including critical timeline development; coordinating preevent, event, and postevent logistics and timelines; coordinating meetings; preparing, monitoring, and distributing event budgets. Events include but aren't limited to the AGM, National Schizophrenia Awareness Day, other awareness events, donor events, and member events.
  • Exploring event topics and potential speakers
  • Acting as a liaison for all thirdparty events for BCSS and BCSSF
  • Liaising with staff, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and key stakeholders
  • Developing sponsorship packages and ensuring delivery of sponsor benefits
  • Working with the BCSS Communications Team and Director of Development to produce event promotional and marketing materials (including announcements, photo opportunities, speech writing, and online/social media)
  • Developing a strategic plan and calendar for BCSS and BCSS Foundation events
  • Developing new opportunities and ideas to build community awareness through existing and future events
  • Increasing engagement, participation, community awareness, and education of BCSS events.
  • Increasing membership and engagement
  • Increasing awareness of BCSS, participation and community engagement with BCSS through organizing various BCSS events
  • Responding to inquiries from the public about events, including assisting with media requests
  • Preparing formal postevent reports
  • Assisting with planning for event budgets

Education and Experience

  • Postsecondary diploma required, preference for postsecondary degree in a related field(preferably Marketing, Public or Community Relations, Event Planning), and two years of experience in special events planning, preferably in the notforprofit sector
  • The ability to work well independently or as a team on several projects concurrently
  • Experience in planning and implementing events; proven track record in developing and implementing promotional plans
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Teams is required
  • Knowledge and experience with the use of CRM database programs, website management, and social media in a professional capacity are preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent problemsolving skills, timemanagement, organization, and creative thinking; attention to detail is imperative
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment
