Position Overview Our Engineering Planning and Design group has an opportunity for a Project Engineer to manage and conduct professional engineering work in relation to a wide range of municipal civil infrastructure.

While the ability to work independently is important, excellent interpersonal skills are critical to succeed in this role as it will see you engage with a range of stakeholders.


Examples of work include:

acting as engineer of record to design/construct/contract manager in-house works (typically small to mid-size water, sanitary and drainage utility projects but may also include small road/creek/unique works); reviewing/overseeing/supervising the work of in-house design technicians and external consultants and contractors; reviewing design drawings of external consultants that are delivering capital work for the District or drawings of third party organisations (Metro Vancouver, MOTI, BC Hydro, etc).Additionally, the role involves developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for utility-related projects and serving as the Project Manager for these initiatives.

The individual may also support the DNV Utility Asset Management Planning, ensuring that utility assets are effectively managed and maintained.

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of utility design and project management principles, as well as the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to achieve project goals.

You will also sound knowledge of engineering design principles, methods, techniques and engineering mathematics, and have a commitment to continuous learning and skill improvement to ensure meeting DNV's design requirements.


In addition, you must have the ability to:

make complex technical computations and estimates and to analyze engineering data and statistics; interpret and prepare engineering plans and specifications; write and present clear, concise and complete reports on technical engineering problems; act as project manager and to ensure adherence to plans and specifications; participate in site visits; review and manage requests related to single-family permit applications; effectively negotiate complex issues with construction contractors and professional consultants in the best interest of the District and taxpayers; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.


Qualifications You will have a Degree in Civil Engineering, a Professional Engineer designation in (Must be registered as a at the time of interview) plus a minimum of four years of related experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with water, drainage, and sanitary utility design, and a strong understanding of hydrology and fluid mechanics.
