What do you offer?


The Information and Referral Specialist is responsible for the reception, greeting, and the first point of assistance for clients accessing services provided at the Centre.

The Information and Referral Specialist will determine eligibility, screen immigration documentation for accuracy, and disseminate accurate information, and courteous service.

The person must be detail-oriented, able to work independently as well as within a team environment, have a high degree of initiative and adaptability, be able to multitask, and have a strong customer service focus.

They will also be a team member contributing to quality service delivery and achievement of program goals while establishing and nurturing an effective working relationship with the Language program providers, the Association, and the community.


Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Answer and return all client calls; redirect client calls accordingly.
  • Assess clients' language needs.
  • Verify client eligibility in accordance with IRCC and MCCSS guidelines.
  • Book assessment appointments through HARTs Database.
  • Prepare client files for assessors.
  • Assist clients to access the needed information and services.
  • Provide timely relevant information to enable Newcomers to access the desired services and program.
  • Collect, track and report statistical data reflecting services provided
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a substantial library of settlement resources
  • Respond to each client in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Deliver qualitybased, clientdirected, neutral referral services.
  • Coordinate Community Room services as required.
  • Participates in staff meetings

Education

  • Postsecondary education or equivalent in a related field

Language

  • Fluent in English and French, oral and written, essential
  • Additional languages are an asset

  • Knowledge of Language Service Provider Organizations (LINC/CLIC, ESL/FSL), Immigrant Settlement Services, and other programs offered for Newcomers to Canada
  • Proven sensitivity in working with the needs of immigrants from diverse backgrounds
