Position Summary

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization and in accordance with professional standards and code of ethics as outlined by the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of ., the Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders to adult acute care inpatient/outpatient patients.

The Speech-Language Pathologist may work directly with clients and/or with their caregivers or other persons who regularly interact with them for the purpose of creating environments that promote optimal communication/swallowing.

The Speech-Language Pathologist contributes to the organization and the overall goals of the department/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, and education.


Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00

New Wage :
As of April 1, 2024, the new wage is: $ $52.81/hour

GR Baker Memorial Hospital is a full care hospital with 27 Acute Care beds, 4 ICU beds and 5 crisis stabilization beds.

Qualfications

  • Current registration as a Speech-Language Pathologist with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of BC
  • One year's clinical experience with adults in a hospital setting and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver's license where required.

Assessment and Treatment:
Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments. Knowledge of communication and dysphagia standardized tests, measures, use of equipment and related techniques.

Teaching:
Ability to teach and provide effective consultation to patients, caregivers, and other health care professionals.

Knowledge Integration:
Integrates best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.

Communication:

Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, caregivers, members of the interprofessional care team, both verbally (one-on-one and in groups) and in writing.



Critical Thinking:
Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve and make decisions effectively. Applies the problem-solving process demonstrating critical thinking and decision-making skills using a systems approach.
