Position Description:

  • Reporting to the Director of Research Facilities, Infrastructure and Space Management, the PGCRL Facilities Manager is responsible for providing reliable and responsive operation of facilities essentials and critical building infrastructure in the Peter Gilgan Research Centre for Research and Learning (PGCRL). Unprecedented in its scale and complexity, the PGCRL is a LEED GOLD world class multidisciplinary research facility, home to some of the most renowned pediatric scientists. The incumbent will manage a multidisciplinary team of staff, consultants, contractors, and external service providers in providing comprehensive facilities management services. _

_Here's What You'll Get To Do_
- _Manage the overall operation of the PGCRL in the areas of building safety and operational efficiency to ensure seamless _operation of building systems including, but not limited to: HVAC, High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical distribution system, emergency power equipment, plumbing system, refrigeration equipment, building envelope, etc._
- _Develop and maintain an expandable comprehensive maintenance program, which will include training maintenance personnel and establishing an innovative Preventive Maintenance Program_
- _Oversee, implement, and manage both corrective and preventative maintenance programs to ensure critical research work is not impacted by building system variabilities or failures. _
- _Lead the development, management, and implementation of full automation on all critical building systems to minimize human intervention and error_
- _Oversee and manage all utility building activities (such as building shutdowns, chiller, emergency generators, and electrical system repairs, etc.)_
- _Develop and manage operational budget and infrastructure renewal capital projects over $5M annually_
- _Support implementation of energy and sustainability projects that support operational efficiency and yield positive ROI and_ critical to organizational success_
- _Lead and participate in the annual re-certification of LEED EBOM_
- _Recruit and hire Facilities Operations staff. Conduct appropriate performance management and employee performance reviews on a regular basis. _
- _Provide leadership, direction and coaching to ensure supervisory and frontline staff have access to appropriate educational and training opportunities. _
- _Responsible for solving problems and/or conflicts in a professional manner while maintaining open and timely communication with the internal and external stakeholders_
- _Interface with internal and external customers ensuring effective communications regarding status and priority of work _
- _Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with vendors and other third parties to understand challenges and opportunities, ensure timely exchange of information, and ensure budgetary and service level requirements are met or exceeded_
- _Prepare and negotiate contracts, renewals, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors _
- _Implement programs to support health and safety, quality control, and organizational environmental policies and programs _
- _Must be able to respond to facility emergencies after hours _

_Here's What You'll Need_
- _Minimum of 5-10 years in a supervisory or management role in a hospital, academic institution, pharmaceutical or research environment_
- _Post secondary education in a license construction trade or technology course, in a discipline related to building operations_
- _LEED/EBOM Certification experience and/or training considered an asset_
- _Demonstrated knowledge and experience in building environmental issues, as well as an understanding of business and legal implications_
