Underwriter (Bilingual French/English)

Fullsteam combines cutting-edge payments technology with specialized software to develop industry-specific features and comprehensive business management systems.
We are looking for a bilingual (French/English) Underwriter, based in Canada, with deep knowledge of Canadian underwriting practices for payments processing/merchant onboarding. The focus here is on onboarding merchants onto a payments platform, not insurance or credit underwriting. This role is key in supporting the underwriting function as we expand our payments services in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with Canadian underwriting laws in merchant onboarding and payments processing
- Adhere to corporate policies, FINCEN, AML, and acquiring banks' regulations
- Maintain accurate underwriting records
- Review and document merchant applications precisely
- Provide management with merchant performance and risk assessment
- Utilize various systems to resolve issues efficiently
- Handle escalated issues promptly
- Support cross-functional training and departmental adaptability
- Work independently and collaboratively with other teams
- Show initiative in problem-solving and workload management
- Perform assigned duties
Key Qualifications:
- High School diploma (university degree preferred)
- 5+ years' experience in merchant services or payment processing with underwriting knowledge in Canada
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities
- Highly motivated with keen attention to detail
- Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and collaborate with a team
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Fluent in English and French (speaking, writing, reading, understanding)
