We are seeking an experienced and skilled Senior System Engineer to join our team. As a Senior System Engineer, you will use your expertise to support all activities of the design, development and modeling of the Lightspeed constellation system. You will contribute towards the advancement of new algorithms to model network operations and evaluate system design. In addition, you will participate in the management of the development of the Constellation Network Operating System by an external contractor, including requirements management, program monitoring, as well as testing and integration within the Lightspeed System.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define Lightspeed system architecture, system requirements, and network element (including satellite) specifications, ensuring alignment with project goals and customer needs.
  • Develop system modeling capabilities to evaluate candidate key operating concepts, and work with System Engineering to define and validate requirements.
  • Contribute to the design, modeling, and development of key aspects such as end-to-end communication, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation.
  • Participate in the management of the development of the Constellation Network Operating System by an external contractor, including requirements management, program monitoring, as well as testing and integration within the Lightspeed System.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers in the System Design and Modeling team.
  • Develop and maintain Lightspeed system architecture documentation, including subsystems definition, interfaces, and data flows, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the system.
  • Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team to plan the integration and testing of all elements of the Lightspeed constellation system.
  • Identify and manage technical risks related to the system design and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in the satellite industry, and contribute innovative ideas to design and operation of the Lightspeed constellation system.
  • Create and maintain documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders as required to ensure project success.
Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in satellite system architecture, design, and modeling, with a minimum of 5 years in similar roles
  • Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, orbital mechanics, and space systems
  • Experience with software defined satellite communication payloads
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standards
  • Experience with Matlab

  • Ability to prioritize opportunities, needs and resources.
  • Fluent in English, written and oral. French is an asset.

Decision Making and Supervision
  • In this role, the incumbent will issue recommendations and have influence on the Lightspeed system design.
  • This role has no direct reports.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
