BA Blacktop Ltd. is currently seeking a team oriented, self-motivated and dedicated individual to join our operations team as a Superintendent, Project.

JOB PURPOSE

The Project Superintendent is responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing construction operations. They assure projects are constructed in accordance with company safety programs, contract documents, budget, customer's construction schedule needs, and conform to the plans and specifications.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Site Safety Standards

Have a strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC RegulationsPrepare and send Notice of ProjectParticipate actively in Pre-Job Hazard Assessment and First Aid Assessment in collaboration with the Safety DepartmentParticipate in the development of Safety procedures for specific job tasks in collaboration with the Safety DepartmentPerform monthly safety toursReview and validate project safety reports (inspections, daily workplans)Identify and communicate potential hazards with foremen and crewsEnsure that safety procedures in accordance with the Prime Contractor, BA OH&S manual, and Work Safe are being followedEnsure that all work is carried out in a safe manner while considering risks and potential liabilitiesEnsure all workers and subcontractors participate in project orientation prior to starting work on a specific projectEnsure work sites are always left clean and free from any hazardsInvestigate actively and in detail all incidents/accidents/near missesVerify housekeeping, maintenance, and cleanliness of vehicles/equipment

Project Management Responsibilities

Review contract documents, the scope of work, drawings, and specifications prior to starting a new job siteReview project bid documents and budget in detail with the estimator and/or project manager. Participate in job cost codes set-upParticipate actively in bid handover meetingsParticipate in pre-construction meetingsPrepare and give all necessary information to foremen (Work Order, Drawings, Cost codes, schedule...).Optimize and schedule project resources (manpower, equipment and subcontractors) requirements with the Construction ManagerSchedule Milling and Concrete crews with Milling and Concrete Superintendents as early as possibleSchedule asphalt paving requirements, including the type of mix, quantities, timeline, and production rates with the Construction ManagerSchedule, coordinate and negotiate with subcontractors and material suppliersEnsure BC 1 Call as built and necessary permits are obtainedDirect and coordinate construction operations, construction methods and techniques, and overall planning of assigned projectsImplement and monitor Safety Management Plan, Traffic Management Plan, Quality Management Plan and Environmental Management Plan.Maintain regular, clear, and open communication lines with customers. Document communications through meeting minutes, emails, notes in a diary...Participate in weekly project meetings with the Project Manager (review schedule, resources, costs vs budget and optimizations)Review, verify and correct daily/weekly and monthly job costs in KheopsEnsure that Extra Works, Change Orders, and Force Account Works are discussed early with customers and documented prior to performing the workPrepare monthly project billing in collaboration with Project Managers. Verify the accuracy of the billing prior to submittalSubmit all monthly invoices prior to the 15th of the following month or earlierReview, correct, and approve suppliers' and subcontractors' invoices

Planning and Coordinating

Communicate and implement the project schedule with foremen and sub-contractorsLead/organize/give specific instructions to the site foremen on a daily basisOrganize what is needed for the work site, such as trucks, equipment, materials, and sub-contractors (flaggers, surveyors, utility subcontractors, etc.) in close collaboration with the site foremanPrepare project schedule. Maintain 3 week look-ahead scheduleMonitor work progress and ensure scheduled deadlines are met

Quality of Work

Ensure that the quality control plan is followedEnsure that Quality Control Testing is scheduled as per the project requirementsEnsure/Verify quality requirements are metAddress/Correct all deficiencies as early as possibleEnsure that all deficiencies are reported through the NCR process

Training and Development

Lead, monitor, train and develop site foreman and crew membersEnsure workers have received proper training prior to completing specific tasks (fall protection, Confine Space, Rigging, Traffic Control, ...)Perform bi-annually appraisals for all direct reports

Equipment Management

Schedule equipment requirements with the Construction ManagerCommunicate equipment issues and breakdowns with the equipment department

Reporting and Record Keeping

Review, update and validate Daily Quantity Reports ''DQR'' and Extra Work Orders ''EWO'' on a daily basisReview, correct and integrate foreman paperwork and daily timesheets in Kheops within 48 hoursReview and sign foremen's daily work plans and monthly safety inspectionsKeep daily notes of work site activities, conversations, issues, and specific instructions in a diary

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE)

Essential Qualifications

Have a strong and growing knowledge of road construction activities and specifications (MoTI, MMCD, municipal specifications, and Traffic Control Management)Have a good understanding of Contract DocumentsSelf-starting, highly motivated, and goal-orientated individual with exceptional attention to detailBe a leader: excellent leadership and communication skillsStrong communication skills with clients and publicBe organized, detailed, and prepared by planning aheadAbility to maintain composure in dealing with stressful situationsAbility to read and interpret site plans/blueprints and look up specifications from MoTI / MMCDAbility to organize all field aspects needed on-site to begin and complete a jobGood Computer Skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, Kheops and BluebeamAbility to measure and verify quantitiesA desire to learn and teach; a passion to excel and to strive to get the most out of employees

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS ON THE ROLE/ COMPANY

The Superintendent's skills as a roadbuilder, a leader, an organizer, a communicator, a negotiator, and a trainer will determine the success and profitability of the Company.

Interacting daily with all departments, they are the key link between our construction operations in the field and the other divisions in the Company: Safety Department, Quality Department, Estimating team and our Accounting team.
