Position:
School Age Program Support Educator; School Year

Licensed Child Care Location:
Seeking staff at various Elementary Schools throughout Middlesex,

Start Date:
Training begins approximately the last week of August

Compensation:
Starting rates are dependent on region, qualifications, and contract.

  • Members of the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario up to $19.00 per hour (includes government wage enhancements)
  • Non RECEs up to $18.00 per hour (includes government wage enhancements)

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday following the
    elementary school calendar for :
  • Morning program operates from 7:15am-9:15am Monday
  • Friday (varies with location)
  • Afternoon program operates from 3:00pm6:00pm Monday
  • Friday (varies with location)
  • Possibility of additional fullday shifts on PD Days/Breaks various locations/needs
  • Required to commit to supporting a family of schools within a reasonable proximity.

In this role, you will:

  • School Age Program Support Educators provide support to children 412 years with a variety of special needs including physical, developmental and behavioural in the before & after school program setting.
  • Perform the essential physical duties of the position to support our children with special needs, which may include toileting, lifting, transferring, and personal care.
  • Use appropriate behaviour modification techniques when supervising children; Strong behaviour management knowledge is necessary.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to child's daily program needs.
  • To ensure compliance with Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and health unit regulations.
  • Adhere to YMCA of Southwestern Ontario policy and procedures.
  • To ensure the implementation of the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum to meet the needs, special needs, interests, and talents of all children.
  • Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in your daily work.
  • Adhere to the Early Childhood Educator Code of Ethics and Standards
  • Flexibility supporting more than one location should the need arise

Education and Skills Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with special needs and diverse backgrounds
  • Current BMS/NVCI/CPI/PMAB preferred
  • Child and Youth Care Worker (CYW) or Developmental Service Worker (DSW) diploma or Child and Youth Care (CYC) College Advanced Diploma or a Certificate in Autism and Behavioural Sciences Program (ABS), or Educational Assistant (EA) diploma preferred
  • Early Childhood Education graduates must be registered (or proof that registration is in process) and in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
  • Graduates in a related field of study must be members of their associations as required
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification through a WSIB approved agency or include the date of training scheduled within the next three months. Training cost and time is at the expense of the applicant and not reimbursed.
  • Applicants are required to be a minimum of 18 years of age as per the Child Care & Early Years Act and obtain a current Vulnerable Criminal Reference Check (less than 6 months old)
  • Uptodate immunizations required by Public Health, Ministry of Education and YMCASWO
  • Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending, and stooping
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
