A day in the life of a Capital One Staff Engineer

As a Solution Architect at Capital One Software Studio, you will be responsible for creating technology solutions that align with our business objectives. Your role involves designing scalable and secure architectures, exploring new technologies, overseeing high-level designs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to advocate for architectural best practices. By collaborating closely with business partners, you will contribute to shaping innovative business architectures that adhere to our standards of security and design.

  • Assisting customers in monitoring their credit scores with Credit Keeper
  • Enabling customers to manage their Personal Information directly through the Mobile App
  • Providing customers with certainty about credit card approvals through Quick CheckTM

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and implement architectural solutions aligned with Capital One Canada's business goals and architectural principles.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical capabilities in sync with strategic objectives.
  • Oversight of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design documents.
  • Engagement in governance forums for compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Promote technology strategies across all levels to enhance business value and innovation.
  • Guide and mentor teams in adopting architectural best practices and continuous improvement efforts.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Software Engineering and Technology Solution design
  • Over 3 years of experience as a Solutions Architect in large organizations
  • At least 2 years of cloud solutions architecture experience (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Technology
  • Over 7 years of software engineering experience
  • Extensive experience in architecting scalable systems in tightly regulated environments
  • Strong communication skills to interact with various stakeholders
  • Background in a regulated setting (HIPAA, PCI, Privacy, etc.)
  • Professional certifications such as Cloud Practitioner, Solution Architect-Associate
  • Certification in TOGAF, AWS, or other relevant architectural frameworks
