The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province's power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it.

We operate the province's electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario's electricity needs - now and into the future.

The Opportunity


Reporting to the Supervisor, Project and Evidence Management, this role is responsible for supporting the MACD Director in performing a wide range of resource acquisition and talent development activities.

This role also supports the administration of MACD's unique procurement and funding arrangements.

What you'll do

Leads, facilitates, supports and oversees various aspects of MACD's various resource acquisition and talent development activities.

Ensures that all such activities align with direction from IESO Corporate Services, provincial government directives and any other applicable arrangements.

Assists in the oversight and administration of MACD's unique funding arrangements, including its use of the IESO's Adjustment Account as per IESO Corporate Services direction, and compliance with the Market Rule governing use of this account.

Assists in the oversight and execution of MACD's budgeting, expense control and tracking activities, in addition to other division-specific accounting practices.

Manages and administers MACD's talent development program, including MACD's specialized orientation program, as well as its technical training and development curriculum.

Ensures that MACD managers and supervisors are following this curriculum as part of their development planning with staff.

Supports MACD's senior management in coordinating the division's performance appraisals and talent assessments, providing advice on matters related to competency development and performance management.

Responds to inquiries on procurement, training or related activities by providing technical advice, guidance and/or training, as appropriate.

Leads the research, analysis and identification of all relevant training offerings which may meet MACD's specific legal and technical training requirements.

Ensures that all training taken by MACD is recorded in MACD's training database with corresponding evaluations, enabling assessments of the offerings' value on an ongoing basis.

Works collaboratively with other team members and other IESO personnel, especially IESO Corporate Services personnel in the areas of Finance and Human Resources, to effectively implement the division's goals within the context of MACD's and IESO's broader strategic direction.

Reviews work products and provides guidance to junior staff members, as required.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Education:


Requires an academic background in business, commerce, economics, accounting or communications at a level appropriate in understanding the technical, legislative and regulatory parameters governing procurement and resource acquisition within the Ontario energy sector.

Requires excellent written and communication skills in order to prepare procurement and training materials and communicate effectively with all partners across MACD and the IESO in accomplishing the work objectives.

This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a four year university degree in business, commerce, economics, accounting, communications or a related discipline.


Experience:

Knowledge of the IESO-administered markets and/or specific IESO business processes (e.g., Procurement, Settlements, Corporate Finance and Human Resources)
Knowledge of legislative and regulatory parameters governing the Ontario electricity market.
Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and effective communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to either work independently or within a dynamic team environment.
Strong organizational skills and deadline-oriented performance.
Proven ability to effectively influence peers.
Ability to lead on major projects and review work assignments of junior staff.
