About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we've been helping people in crisis since 1928.

As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives.

Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centred care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens.

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated, Trauma Counsellor to join our STV counselling program and Trauma Services team.

Trauma Counsellors, in our STV Program, provide trauma-informed counselling for folks from all marginalized genders who have experienced childhood sexual abuse.

Counselling services include intake, assessment, treatment, referrals, and consultation, and collaboration with other service providers. Our Trauma Counsellors support clients in their healing journeys from a feminist, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, intersectional lens.

Salary:
Grade 13 Step 1 $37.51/ hour

What you bring:

Education, Training, Experience

  • Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent degree (MA, M.Ed., MSW) & registered with a professional body (BCACC, BC College of Social Workers)
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant counselling experience working with adults who have experienced trauma
  • Training in traumainformed counselling, somatic approaches, partswork and expressivearts based interventions
  • Registered with a professional counselling body (ie. BCACC, or BC College of Social Workers)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Solid understanding of the best practices in trauma treatment including somatic approaches, expressive artsbased approaches, the neurobiological impacts of trauma, attachment work, internal family systems/partswork
- excellent clinical counselling skills (both individual and group counselling)

  • Knowledge, skills and experience in working with a diverse client population, who have been impacted by poverty, abuse, neglect, addiction, mental health issues
  • Committed to traumainformed, feminist, antioppressive practice and skills to adapt practice to best meet needs of clients

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
  • Proof of Covid19 vaccination status will be required
