The estimator will be responsible for analyzing costs and preparing estimates on construction projects for civil engineering, architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical projects.

This role will collaborate with and support the Senior Estimator on bid preparation on large projects and take lead on smaller estimates.


Position Requirements

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaboratively complete the full-cycle bid process; either as the lead on smaller projects or as a partner working on a
portion of a complex project.

  • With an eye for detail, accurately interpret technical specifications for bid documents; Performing detailed specification and drawing review
  • Actively complete full quantity takeoffs to ensure accuracy of contract specifications and pricing; coordinate like items with other estimators in consideration of bulk pricing opportunities.
  • Performing bid day assignments; take bids and analyze bid recaps and distribute bid documents to subs and suppliers
  • Keep client pricing requirements topofmind to ensure feasibility;
  • Grow and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, consultants and clients to achieve the project goals and vision;
  • Communicate and monitor resolution of any problems or questions encountered during the bid process; RFIs and with
trade partners, such as subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Get creative and think outside the box to come up with innovative solutions and opportunities; look beyond plans and specifications to produce the best pricing solution;
  • Actively encourage a learning environment, share your knowledge and be a role model throughout the estimation process with your team; review all estimates and documents within your team as appropriate
  • Checking all addenda; checking, reading, incorporating, pricing and distributing
  • Placing sub bid request ads and minority bid ads; Updating subcontractor solicitation list
  • Maintain unit rate database and set up alternates and unit prices
  • Attending prebid, site visit and start up meetings as required
  • Making phone checklist, review with bid team
  • Transferring "will bid" subs and suppliers to appropriate Estimating Sheet/SmartBid
  • Assist with AFP projects as directed by Chief Estimator
  • Calling and coordinating Scopes of Work with all subcontractors; ensuring subcontractor bid coverage on all Scopes of Work
  • Assisting in pricing COs as and when required
  • Preliminary construction schedules in MS Project or equal
  • Prepare conceptual budgets
  • Assist Operations in subcontract buyouts
  • Work with BIM team to assist/coordinate work as required
  • Prequalify bidders and evaluate accordingly (CCDC 11, etc.)
Construction Management jobs

  • Prepare budget and Tender Package budgets; reconcile
  • Create and maintain Tender Package frontend documents and Scopes of Work, as well as procurement log with
bidders

  • Manage and administer individual Tender Packages; preparing recommendations for all Tender Packages and
performing analysis upon closing

  • Work with Operations team closely in all regards to the above
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned to meet business unit and organizational objectives.

Educational & Professional Requirements:

  • 2year college diploma in a construction related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in construction cost estimating
  • Proven ability to take a lead role on estimates $50 million and under; experience on estimates over $100 million
  • Driver's licence and access to a vehicle an asset
