About this Role:

Becklar is looking for a talented IT Professional to join our team Under the direction of the IT Director, the Systems Administrator acts as technical resource on assigned project-related work while assisting on escalated and remote 'smart-hands' issues from Internal Support.

This role serves as a primary technical resource in system administration for complex enterprise systems including telecom, networks, servers, storage, security, database, virtualization, cloud technology, etc.


What You'll Do:

  • Maintain, upgrade, build, and provide Tier 2 support for critical enterprise systems.
  • Ensure escalated Internal Support tickets are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Build and maintain detailed ongoing documentation and training around specific processes and systems
  • Ensure proper preventative maintenance (eg. patching of workstations and servers) is scheduled, performed, and documented.
  • Be responsible for some measure of maintenance and/or configuration of the monitoring platform(s) (Solarwinds, Dynatrace, OpsGenie), ensuring that issues and anomalies are properly alerting the support teams.
  • Perform as a primary resource on IT operational projects and assists senior engineers and architects with other IT projects.
  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization and keep up to date on innovative technologies in the industries.
  • Act as primary handson resource for Data Center locations in Canada, and be able to travel on an asneeded basis to: Edmonton, Moncton, and Dartmouth

Skills Needed:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years' IT experience, 2+ as a system administrator, supporting diverse enterprise systems including: desktop automation, servers, storage, firewalls, routers, switches, cloud platforms, and telecom preferred
  • Industry certifications are highly desired (Microsoft Certified Professional, MCSA, CompTIA A+, N+, CCNA, VMWare, ITIL, etc)
  • Must be able to interface directly with users with a wide variety of technical skills in a professional manner.
  • Must be willing and able to be on call about once a month
  • Highly selfmotivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment.
