JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our New Nuclear Engineering Team in the role of Technical Engineer/ Officer located in Oshawa, Ontario.

The Technical Engineer/ Officer will have the opportunity to Provide technical evaluation, considerations and proposals, as required in a number of major work areas, in an Ontario Power Generation, Nuclear (OPG,N) facility. Maintain instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) pressure boundary activities including development of the DNNP pressure boundary manual, technical review of documents and preparation of variances to pressure boundary codes and standard.Interface with the Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA) and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC). Prepare and maintain engineering procedures. Receive assignments relating to procedures from the Supervisor or identify potential problems and opportunities. Discuss these with operating personnel or others as required to ensure current practices are recognized in the procedure. Prepare new or revised procedures consistent with operating licenses, policies, principles, department standard practices, standing instructions, maximum safety of operation, minimal risk of damage or loss, optimum frequency of routines; efficient operation and the like. Submit for review and approval. Prepare or help prepare specifications, for purchasing requisitions for material, services and equipment. Follow up with procurement and provide necessary technical services during field installation. Prepare recommendations for spare parts requirements for new equipment. Prepare reports to provide information and data in answer to external requests or for historical purposes. Initiate studies or investigations where opportunities for improvement are apparent. In some instances, these opportunities may be identified by the Supervisor. Collect, or arrange for collection, and analyze data from past events or operations. Prepare reports, for distribution to various groups, outlining technical details of procedures, processes, results or conclusions and the roles played by various groups; such as, Ontario Power Generation or other external organizations. The foregoing may include delivery of presentations. Provide explanations and answers to questions received from recipients of reports. Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned area. Discuss proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate. Recommend disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review and forwarding to approval authority. Other Duties as Required

EDUCATION

University Bachelor's Degree in or Equivalent Engineering Degree Candidate must be a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates will have a minimum 5 years working experience in a Nuclear Engineering environment Minimum 5 years experience with conventional and nuclear pressure boundary codes and standards (CSA B51/N285, ASME BPVC) Experienced interfacing with regulatory bodies (TSSA, CNSC) Knowledge of codes and standards in inspection, maintenance and life cycle management. Knowledge in developing inspection requirements/aging management strategies and assessing inspection results. Experience and ability as a team player to understand and manage the interrelationships of various internal and external groups in order to facilitate objectives and ensure deliverables satisfy stakeholder requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations. Have a strong interest in fast-paced, challenging work environments where showing initiative and self-motivation are assets. Strong interpersonal skills to work with maintenance and operation teams in technical support capacity. Proven track record on delivery results. Strong in understanding, executing and following governance and procedures with a questioning and analytical attitude/approach under minimum required supervision.
