Job Summary


Reporting to the Manager, Housing Services, the Building Liaison provides assistance with on-site supportive property management for a residential apartment building that is owned or managed by the CMHA-Edmonton.

The position is responsible for liaising with tenants and ensuring that tenants adhere to safety procedures and tenant building rules and regulations.

These rules have been established in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act and the CMHA-Edmonton policies and procedures to provide a safe and secure living environment for all tenants.

The Building Liaison will establish and maintain rapport and trust with the tenants in a non-counselling peer support manner.

As the Building Liaison will live on-site, a reduced rental rate is available.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Property Management

  • Tenant Communication: Building Liaisons act as a primary contact for tenants regarding various matters related to the building and general questions. Provides onsite support within the apartment building through liaison with tenants and the Manager, Housing Services.
  • Compliance and Regulations: help communicate building policies, rules, and regulations to Tenants ensuring everyone is aware of their responsibilities and obligations. Assists the Manager, by ensuring tenants adhere to Building Rules in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act and the CMHA-Edmonton policies and procedures.
  • Maintains an awareness of any 'changes' in individual tenant behavior (e.g. if tenant exhibits problems with mental health or addiction behaviors) that may warrant the intervention of additional support services Communicates any observed changes in tenant behavior to the Manager, Housing Services for possible followup with other CMHA-Edmonton or community resources.
  • Conflict Resolution: They help mediate and resolve conflicts between tenants being a neutral party and finding equitable solutions to disputes.
  • Emergency Response: In the event of emergencies or urgent situations, the Building Liaison may coordinate responses, such as contacting the Edmonton Police Services (EPS), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Mental Health Crisis Outreach Team as necessary to provide emergency assistance in dealing with health, safety and/or security issues that may arise.
  • Property Inspections: conduct daily inspections of common areas and shared facilities to ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to property rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that building security is maintained by confirming that doors are locked and seeing that unwelcome individuals or intruders depart from the building (without endangering personal safety)

Administration

  • Maintains records of critical incidents and other relevant information as requested by the Manager, Housing Services.
  • Maintains and posts a weekly schedule identifying onsite availability to meet with tenants, by telephone, to discuss issues or concerns, for 1012 hours/week between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00pm
  • Gathers and provides information to the Manager, Housing Services regarding the apartment building, overall premises, and tenants, including completing incident reports on disturbances, damages, and personal injuries.
  • Feedback Collection: Building Liaisons gather feedback from tenants regarding building amenities, services, and any areas for improvement. This information is relayed to the Manager, Housing Services at CMHA to make informed decisions.


The Building Liaison plays a critical role in enhancing the overall Tenant experience, maintaining a positive living, or working environment, and contributing to the overall success of the CMHA Housing Program by fostering tenant satisfaction and retention.


Qualifications/Experience

  • Grade 12 Diploma (some postsecondary education in Social Work, Psychology or Human Services is preferred)
  • Previous experience working with individuals with mental health issues will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 13 years of prior experience in customer service, property management, or a related field is required.
  • Must be able to reside at on site location, reduced rental rate available.
