As a Health and Fitness Camp Counselor, you will work during winter break to lead a group of children through fun, age-appropriate and engaging activities in an indoor setting, while ensuring the children's safety.

You will ensure that camp participants have a positive experience in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment. Your will also help encourage participants and their families to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.

In this role, you will:

  • Plan and deliver ageappropriate activities and games for participants.
  • Take attendance, ensure participants are signed into and out of the program.
  • Set up and take down recreational, program and other equipment as required at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
  • Actively participate in recreational swim daily, while ensuring a safe aquatics experience for children.
  • In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assist and encourage program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
  • Perform other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor.

You bring:

  • Current certification in the following award: Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid and CPR level C
  • Experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting an asset
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including weekday mornings and afternoons throughout the Winter and March Break;
