We are looking for an IP Operations Specialist in Calgary, AB. The role of the IP Operations Specialist will be to support and maintain Xplore's IP network infrastructure. This role will plan and execute configuration changes on equipment such as routers, servers, switches, DNS, DHCP and traffic management devices at an expert level. This position acts as a prime technical contact to 3rd party service providers and Level 3 Network Operations specialists. This position involves participation in on call work and performing work in scheduled maintenance windows.

Key responsibilities include:


• Act as an operational project prime for IP related projects. This includes new technology rollouts, acquisition integration activities, testing new solutions, and acting as a prime for network readiness testing for all Network/IP integration tasks.

• Change Management - Act as a senior level resource on planning, performing, monitoring, and documenting network changes. Perform Network cutovers, software upgrades and capacity expansion. Write change requests, methods of procedures and acceptance test plans

• Provide expert level support to the Network Operations Team for problems pertaining to IP network services and infrastructure. Provide expert level knowledge on VoIP, Traffic management and analysis, and routing/switching protocols.

• Outage Management - Respond appropriately to critical outage events. This includes he coordination, communication, and troubleshooting of events in a timely manner from beginning through resolution

• Documentation Management - Ensure all head ends and IP Operational processes are fully documented and updated regularly

The ideal candidate will possess:


• A minimum of five years related work experience or a two-year College diploma from a related discipline plus 5 years of progressive experience preferable in an ISP environment.

• 3-5 years' experience in network Operations or Engineering.

• Experience with Network management systems

• The ability to effectively problem slove

• In Depth understanding of IP networking, routing and switching, BGP, ISIS, MPLS, OSPF, VPNs

• Excellent change management skills

• Experience with network monitoring tools (i.e. WireShark, Nagios, Cacti, Smokeping).

• Experience with servers, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Radius and VPN devices

• Traffic management policies and application

• Professional Level Cisco Certification considered an asset
