About the Human Resources team:


The Human Resources team supports the GWL corporate centre in all elements of HR strategy, including onboarding, offboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation, recruitment, learning and development, and culture.

The team provides guidance, direction, and support in employee and leader inquiries, and supports in rolling out various HR programs and initiatives.


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Human Resources, the HR Business Partner will work with leaders and their teams directly to define and implement people strategies that are aligned with business plans.

In this role, you will nurture an inclusive team culture, identify opportunities, propose, build, and execute solutions in achieving people related goals and enhancing the overall employee experience.


What you will do:

  • Partner with senior business leaders and their teams to develop and implement effective HR policies and practices that will support the strategic growth of the business.
  • Play a strategic role to recognize barriers to success and facilitate proactive solutions that support a performance driven culture with a focus on talent management, coaching and mentoring managers on talent reviews, performance management, succession and building a talent pipeline.
  • Partner with talent acquisition on workforce planning to ensure attraction of key talent to a well thought out strategy, as well as retain and develop high potential and high performing colleagues.
  • Operate as a key enabler to the business as it drives engagement and culture by counseling, guiding, facilitating, and allowing the business to own colleague engagement and the sustainment of culture.

  • Serve as a coach and confidante to leaders around people and organizational issues, leadership development, and act as an advocate for colleagues.
  • Participate and provide advice in annual merit pay, incentive and related compensation programs.
  • Collaborate with the HR team on DEI (Diversity Equity Inclusion) initiatives, ensuring that the organization is educated, involved, and actively building a culture of inclusion & belonging.
  • Contribute to crossteam initiatives, such as events, announcements, trainings, and other key deliverables.

What you will need:

  • Postsecondary education in human resources, business, or related discipline, preferably with a CHRL designation.
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in progressively responsible roles in human resources, including human resources business partner or "generalist" roles.
  • Strong business consulting and HR acumen, including strong problemsolving skills, critical thinking, and initiative and the ability to influence and partner across organization levels to drive impact.
  • An open, credible communication style along with strong problem solving, decisionmaking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive employee matters with autonomy, discretion, and respect. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems, preferably Workday, and comfortable with capturing and interpreting metrics.
