Position Description:

Job Summary:


This position is with the Upper Extremity research group at St Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton in the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedics.

Typical duties include identifying study participants, carrying out patient visits, data input and management, completing REB submissions and amendments, and other duties required to support the research program.


Responsibilities:

  • Identifying study participants- Use recruitment processes appropriate for the study, which may include reviewing medical charts, creating advertisements, and/or conducting telephone screening interviews.
  • Explain the purpose and goals of the project to the patient, respond to participants' questions, explain participant rights and responsibilities.
  • Follow clear protocolmandated criteria for inclusion and enrollment in study.
  • Register patient information, obtain patient consent and ensure all study documentation is completed and included in appropriate files.
  • 2.Carrying out patient visits Plan visits according to the study requirements.
  • Deal with scheduling issues in the most effective manner that ensures the study criteria are adhered to.
  • Conduct patient visits. May administer selfreporting questionnaires and carry out standardized tests within the protocol set out for the project.
  • Coordinate other tests with appropriate health care professionals (ie. scheduling MRI appointments).
  • Coordinate any other steps and processes required to compile participant documentation, such as file review, interactions with health care professionals and any other approved information gathering techniques.
  • 3.Data input and management Reviews source documents such as health records, patient files or other information to complete case study forms, to abstract data and to enter data into the database.
  • Establish a data validation plan to ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency of data collected to ensure accuracy of analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure all results are cross checked to ensure accuracy after they are entered into the database.
  • 4.REB submissions/amendments Assist in preparing reporting documents related to ethics submissions and study protocols.
  • Assist with submissions to REB, including case report forms, source documents, information, and consent forms.
  • 5.Administrative tasks Assist in documenting chart notes, preparing updates for study, and participating in meetings.
  • Assist with journal submissions for manuscript publications.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • University degree (preferably in Health Sciences or a related field).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in clinical trials.
  • Experience interacting with patients in a clinical setting.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design and conduct.
  • Indepth knowledge of GCP and GDP.
  • Excellent communication skills, high capacity to take up independent work in a dynamic environment, confidence with multitasking, proactivity, organizational capacity, due diligence in problem resolution, attention to detail, and teamwork attitude.
