We are currently looking for a full-time, temporary,
Wellbeing
Counsellor to join our team.

The CCLC is a great place to work and make a difference. This is your opportunity to help newcomers make London their home. This role assists newly arrived government assisted refugees who have complex medical needs. You'll help identify the nature of the support they require and resources available in the community that can help. You'll also provide short-term crisis intervention and counselling as needed. Ability to speak a newcomer language is an asset for this role.

Role Responsibilities include:

  • Provides culturally responsive services and support to clients with a broad range of mental and emotional health issues
  • Facilitate intake meetings and conduct mental health and psychosocial assessments for clients
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as required
  • Provide short term trauma informed Cognitive Behavioral treatment
  • Develop and implement short term treatment plans
  • Provide individual, couples and family counselling
  • Facilitate group counselling and educational workshops on mental wellness, stress management, anxiety, depression and trauma
  • Arranges for and follows up on referrals to specialized services
  • Assists clients to access community supports, housing, welfare, legal or other social services
  • Communicates effectively with other CCLC staff and caregivers to ensure optimum care within the boundaries of confidentiality and appropriate disclosure
  • Works with clients and community groups to diminish social isolation and promote participation in community networks and activities
  • Participate actively in all mandated training, staff meetings and workshops
  • Maintain and submit accurate tracking documents and monthly reporting updates to the supervisor
  • Maintain appropriate database records and files pertaining to settlement services provided to clients
  • Ensures appropriate and confidential handling of all client information and files
  • Operates in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of the program and partner organizations
  • Accepts other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The minimum level of education required is a Bachelors degree preferably in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, or related fields
  • Minimum of three years experience in mental health services working with adults, children youth & seniors and working in partnerships with other health and community agencies
  • Ability to operate normal office equipment such as computers and printers
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Ability to read and communicate straightforward and routine information to clients, CCLC staff, school staff and other partners
  • Ability to read and authenticate client documents
  • Ability to prepare standard reports, forms and program statistics
  • Ability to demonstrate antioppressive practices
  • Ability to provide trauma and violence informed care
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to respond to clients' requests and needs in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in individual and in group settings
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in partnerships and collaborative relationships across different stakeholders
  • Appropriate level of proficiency in the principles and practices of mental health services, crisis counselling and case management
  • Basic digital and computer skills
  • Access to reliable vehicle, for travel within London when necessary
