The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting a GeospatialSpecialist to fill a permanent full-time position. The Geospatial Specialist is responsible forproject leadership for geospatial solutions throughout the organization as wellas providing corporate and departmental support for GIS, GPS, CAD and otherrelated software and hardware. Thisposition will establish workflows and processes to ensure the integrity of thecorporate geospatial data as well as GIS support for the City's EmergencyOperations Centre.

This position plays a key role in supporting the coreIT functions of GIS Solutions, GIS Support, GIS development, Data Quality andInnovation.

As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

Post-secondary Diploma or University Degree in anaccredited GIS program Must have 5 years' experience in a comparableposition: Work in an urban municipal environment. Lead projects with corporate wide impact. Preferred additional experience: Preferred software skills include: ESRI's product set,Safe Software's FME server and desktop; Autodesk's AutoCAD and Civil3D; SQLServer databases; GPS software/hardware, andMicrosoft's O365. Experience in designing and implementing scalableenterprise level GIS and the ability to evaluate how the solution will bestmeet its functional and quality requirements. A creative individual with a keen eye for detail. Must have strong organizational, analytical,and problem-solving skills. Ability to provide technical training and present GISrelated demonstrations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintaineffective working relationships with other Information Technology staff,end-user department personnel and outside vendors & consultants. Ability to work effectively on a variety of projectswith tight deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A self-motivated team player with the initiative andwillingness to learn. **An equivalent combination of education and experiencemay also be considered. The following are specific to this position: Thorough knowledge of advanced geographic informationconcepts, systems and applications Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional analytical, conceptual, andproblem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail. Strong technical documentation skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with departmental staff, other City departments, customers,outside vendors and consultants. Ability to work independently or in a team situationin a collegial atmosphere. Ability to work independently and act on an initiativewithin given guidelines. Strong computer skills, including familiarity withMicrosoft Office 365. A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle arerequired for offsite meetings. Must have the ability to work in a demanding andfrequently stressful environment. Must be available to perform call out duties foremergency management when applicable.

Remuneration:

$44.57 to $46.92 per hour

Hours of Work:

75hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; some evening andweekend work may be required when needed.

Additional Information:

The location ofwork for this position is onsite at the Civic Yards – Bldg. 300 and at CityHall.
