Position Summary:


The Direct Accountability Program (DAP) is an alternative to prosecution for eligible individuals who have been charged with minor criminal offences.

The program involves accused persons being held accountable through community-based sanctions. The Community Service Order Program been an effective alternative to incarceration in Thunder Bay.


This program provides referred individuals from Probation & Parole Services, support in completing volunteer work in the community as part of their conditions for Probation.

This position will oversee a caseload of individuals completing court ordered sanctions. This position will provide support to individuals and access to resources that assist in the completion of sanctions.

This position will be responsible for reporting to the Court and community supervision services on the status of referred individuals.


Position Duties & Tasks:

  • Attend Thunder Bay First Appearance courts to accept referrals
  • Coordinate placements of individual ordered to perform volunteer hours
  • Facilitate programming for referred clients
  • Monitor and document the ongoing progress of clients
  • Develop a case plan for each client
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for court outlining case plans as required
  • Interview and assess referred clients for suitable placements
  • Report and record all program statistical data

Education & Experience:

  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in the area of humanities (ex: Social Service Work, Child & Youth, Social Work,
  • Addictions, etc.) or in related areas (ex: Criminology, Police Foundations, etc.)
  • Experience working with individuals considered vulnerable or from marginalized populations
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System is an asset
  • Experience within customer service is an asset

  • Ability to follow direction/instruction, protocols, and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and efficiently work under pressure
