The primary role of the Automation Control Specialist is to support customers with electrical and automation issues and to design and program both existing and new products.Reporting Structure

The Automation Control Specialist derives authority from and reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

Authority and Responsibilities

The Automation Control Specialist has the authority to:

Research, design, and evaluate equipment and systems to meet regulatory, client, and Company requirements.

Support internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery of projects, expected quality, adherence to budget, and fulfillment of after-market demands.

Minimum Requirements

Technologist diploma in Engineering Technology (Electronic, Mechatronics, Electrical, Industrial, etc.).

3+ years of industrial automation experience and electrical design.

Experience in robotics, automation, mechanical design, custom machinery, and/or control systems.

Ability to conceptualize automation solutions to complex manufacturing challenges collaboratively.

Strong knowledge of mechanical design and its application.

Experience in software/hardware/programming/automation/controls.

Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulic principles.

Ability to read and create schematic drawings.

Problem-solving skills to find viable solutions for technical problems.

Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.

Proficiency in Electrical software, Industrial and mobile PLC software, and MS Office.

Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills.

Ability to handle multiple projects and activities simultaneously.

Capability to work independently or in a team environment.

High level of integrity and trust.

Composure under pressure.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Willingness and ability to travel within and outside of Canada.

Willingness and ability to work in an underground mining environment.

Full use of all senses and physical ability to safely maneuver around equipment and work environments.

Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment as required.

Valid driver's license.

Working Conditions

Occasional work near moving mechanical parts, in high places, and outside weather conditions.

Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.

Duties

Participate directly in the design and development of technical projects.

Engage in the engineering work of the department.

Maintain accurate records and files according to Company standards.

Complete tasks on time and within budget or notify the Engineering Manager of an alternative plan.

Moderate overtime may be required with approval.

Include strategies, visions, and business development opportunities.

Provide exceptional client services with effective and enthusiastic marketing for Controls Automation services.

Guide contractors and ensure work meets the Automation Control Specialist standards.

Work directly with clients to provide services such as:

System assessment, feasibility studies, and master plans.

Coordinating project requirements and establishing project scope.

Design of control systems and related aspects.

Commissioning of systems.

System training.
