About Us:
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The OPP is a division of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the largest operational ministry in the province with a presence in every community across Ontario. We are the largest police service in Ontario and the second largest in Canada.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region (NWR) serves an area of 478,606 square kilometers. Our jurisdiction extends from the eastern border of Manitoba to the northern border of the State of Minnesota, to Hudson's Bay in the north and White River to the east. The region includes three districts (Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay) and is divided between eastern and central time zones.
The Dryden OPP have a long history of demonstrating their professionalism and experience in serving the Municipalities of Machin and Ignace, and ensuring the safety of motorists travelling on the busy section of the Trans-Canada Highway that threads through the communities. In February 2022, the Dryden OPP undertook the responsibility of policing the 8000 residents of Dryden from the Dryden Police Service, and the deep roots of community focused policing will continue to guide our successful future.
Our team of uniform officers and administrative professionals rely on a close and collective culture to provide a robust and proactive approach to investigative excellence, traffic safety, community engagement and criminal interdiction. Detachment members respond to a wide range of calls for service in an area of over 16,000 square kilometers, utilizing patrol vehicles, ATV's, snow machines and marine vessels to best serve the diverse communities within the detachment cluster.

What can I expect to do in this role?To provide administrative support to Detachment personnel in the co-ordination and processing of administrative services.
How do I qualify?Mandatory• Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation.
• 40 w.p.m. typing speed.
• Ability to work 12 hour shifts in a 24-hour rotating shift environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, Adequacy Standards, police, fire and other emergency service's procedures, practices and techniques.
• Knowledge of and skill in computer operation and software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to produce court documents and type correspondence, and ability to retrieve data/information and perform queries from multiple databases.
• Knowledge of records management practices to maintain an organized, up-to-date records system.
• Ability to transcribe video, audiotapes.
• Ability to independently plan and prioritize administrative work on a daily basis in accordance with established manuals, practices and procedures.
• Ability to use problem solving skills to provide assistance in fast paced or emergency situations.
• Oral communication skills to clarify the nature of requests, relay messages, and respond to enquiries by providing detailed information, in person and by phone to agencies, companies, court and legal personnel, police services.
• Written communication skills to input accurate information, compose correspondence, proofread a variety of documents, compile reports and summarize information.
